Dedication of The Dr Warren & Betty Staples Chapel

We are very blessed to have a chapel here at Vista Clinic where the patients and employees can go to meet with the Lord in their time of need. For David encourages us with these words: "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:17 – 18).

On Thursday, 25 August 2016, we had a special service during which Dr Landless led in a sermon of dedication for the chapel, setting it apart as the House of the Lord. He used the story of the woman at the well, as recorded in John 4, to illustrate the transformation that comes into the lives of broken people when they encounter Jesus.

Call us "Crazy" for walking campaign

Our first Vista Ambassador, Hannetjie Buitendag, came up with the idea of a "Call us 'crazy' for walking" project that will help to de-stigmatise mental illness in general and raise awareness of depression, in particular.

Idea behind the project "The Happiness HELPS-factors that Vista Clinic has been running with over the past two years gave life to an idea which stemmed from a personal dream and which was further inspired by the Koos du Plessis song "Sprokie vir 'n stadskind" ("....as jy aanhou stap tien duisend ure, sal jy dalk daar kom..."). I wondered: how far one can walk when walking ten thousand hours? The longest known distance I could imagine, as I travelled it from time to time, was the distance from Pretoria to Cape Town, and the idea of long-distance walking got stuck in my mind. Wherever I travel in South Africa, ever since, I imagine myself walking that route...... and so it eventually all came together in the Cra(see) Helps Happiness project of Vista." – Hannetjie Buitendag

New Chapel at Vista Clinic

A Bit of History
No doubt you are aware of the transformation taking place between admissions and the staff dining area as our new chapel takes shape. As you may have noticed the design is very different from the rest of the buildings, and that is because there is a bit of inspirational history behind the design.
Tthe motivation behind the look of the new chapel – from the gabled walls, the windows, the sharp pitched roof, the raised ceiling to the corrugated iron roof – comes from the design of the first Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) churches that were built in South Africa.
When Seventh-Day Adventist missionaries came to South Africa in the late 1800's and early 1900's they used one plan for the design of all the churches they built. Many of these features are now incorporated in our new chapel. The chapel really does tell a wonderful story and will be a focal point here at Vista Clinic.
Below is a picture of the very first SDA church built in Kimberly and the third one in Eastern Cape.

Happiness Poll

Vista Clinic has developed a an online Happiness poll for the Happiness HELPS microsite.  The idea behind the happiness poll is to measure people's happiness at the General Conference session.  Have a look at the microsite on the link below and rate your happiness level on a scale from 1 - 7 www.happinesshelps.co.za

At the GC stand Vista also has a manual happiness poll in the form of bouncing ball dispensers.  Conference attendees were asked to rate their happiness by taking a lime green bouncing ball from the corresponding ball dispenser.
